Introductions. What's your story?

Hello, This is the first time I am spending time in the TWIT community and am enjoying it. I have found that the people here are very friendly and not snobby which I really appreciate.

I usually just have watched TWIT content Via podcast. I started watching back in the Original “Screen Savers” and “Call for Help” days on TV!

I tried participating in the chat a few times but found things moved too quickly for me, and just made my head spin

I have a background in IT, but it has been a long time since I actually made a living from it.

Hi everybody
I’ve been a twit listener since 2008. I think it was Security Now or MacBreak that I was listening to first. I work in IT as a second level support tech at a school.
I’m a Mac, Linux and Windows user with Windows at work and Mac and Linux at home and iOS on the phone
Awesome work to get this forum setup and its way better than just slapping up a Facebook page

Cheers

Hi All

Briain from Edinburgh (Scotland) just joining the party! Long term watcher of Security Now!, TWiT and occasionally Windows Weekly (even though I mainly use Debian). Shows all viewed using a Roku 2 feeding a 49" TV screen. Interests include booze, food, nice sounds (I use a big Linn system for that), nice booze, microwave radio, network security (I’m still using NoScript in my FF browsers, Sophos UTM with https inspection enabled, a bunch of VLANs -> Ubiquiti WAPs) and good booze (typically red wines).

All the best,
Briain (GM8PKL)

I go back as far as the ZDTV days, it was my favorite show at the time. I now listen to as many of the podcasts as I can while I’m at work where I do general purpose IT for a school corporation. TWIT keeps me up to date with what’s new in the world of tech. I spend a lot of time walking between classrooms helping students and teachers, so the podcasts fill my time nicely.

I’m a little behind on my podcasts, but I heard about this first on my way in to work this morning and was very excited! Like many others, I too have been following Leo since the TechTV days.

  • I’ve worked in the IT Department at a college for nearly 15 years now; straight out of college.
  • My first computer was a Commodore 64
  • I taught myself HTML in 1998 and ran a Beanie Baby info site that wavered back and forth between the first two search engine pages for 2 years while I kept it up.
  • I’m a professional wedding photographer when not working my IT job.
  • I live on the East Coast of the US and have never been to California, but would love to visit and attend a live TWIT show someday.
  • I’ll have been married to my husband for 5 years in just a few days.

Hey Guys,
Been a Leo fan since he was doing the morning shows tech talk, if I remember right like, the GMA or the Today shows, it’s been so long I forgot which one, lol and I’m just a few months older than him, just had my 63rd birthday in September.

Been in tech most of my life, I’m an Electrical Engineer with IT, Power and Communication background. My first programming class was FORTRAN IV with a prof that used to work for NASA Kennedy Space Center, back then it was all on IBM punch cards, god how I hated those things, I did learn a lot from him. After graduation I ended up working for the local utility company in Tampa and learned a lot about power, transmission and communications (RTU’s , Relay’s and Metering) and updating their comm systems to the latest technologies ; pagers and cell phone, back then called PCS. I cut my business teeth on an HP 1000 Computer System that used to use the 24 in disk packs that the drive system looks like a wash tub and almost ran like one. Over the years I help build power plants and SCADA systems around the world and now I’m in Texas help regulate the grid here.

My first computer was an Apple IIe with dual 5 in disk drives, then an early Mac. Left the Apple world for the PC side during the late nineties early 2000’s due to cost until 2012 after my youngest daughter got a job with Apple here in Austin on their internet sales fraud detection group. Now I back with Apple; mid 2012 MBPr, 2018 iMac, iPhone X, 2018 iPad Pro 9 in, Apple Watch 4.

I used to do photography as a kid and now a days it has totally changed, and I’m relearning everything new again, lol.

Cheers!

I did a bit on CNN and MSNBC but the long-term regular appearances were on Live with Regis and Kelly from 2001-2012. I stopped when Reeg retired. They were a ton of work, but I really loved doing the show. And Kelly was always so nice. (She once called me her “immortal beloved” - in front of Lisa, no less!)

Hello Leo and everyone! I have been listing for so long I feel like I know everyone. Been in this desert for so long and I love it. Hot? No just a dry heat. If you don’t believe me put your head in the oven. Just an Old here that loves tech and tries to stay up on all the wonderful new things. I am so tech I was the first one to have a non party line on that twisted copper.
All kidding aside I love to listed to the Tech guy and look forward to learning new things and getting some questions answered in this new awesome forum. I really hope that this forum stays friendly and fun. TWIT today for tomorrow.

Hello Leo,

Long time fan! I used to watch on Tech TV…since then I have joined the Navy and am still Active Duty and currently stationed in Guam, Since then you and Steve have made me spend lots of money! Ray Novak (N9JA ICOM America) has helped too… However since I have joined the Navy I have been Security savvy and not only gotten my Tech license but upgraded to General and about to take my Extra all because of your shows!

Keep up the amazing work and I wouldn’t be where I am with Tech and Ham Radio without you and your shows!!

Hi there!

Like many here, I’ve been watching or listening to Leo since Call for Help and The Screen Savers. I was a Coastie in a previous life, dumpster-dived parts to build my first actual PC, worked for the Navy (GS-12 computer guy) for several years, then left to start consulting in the Delaware area about this Internet thing. Started two companies, sold one, got frozen out of the other when the crash hit and the backers wanted out. (Always read the fine print in the contract!) Since then I’ve mostly been doing information security in the D.C. metro area, concentrating on FISMA compliance for government clients. I have a CAP and CISSP certification from (ISC)2, and am generally busier than a one-armed paper hanger.

The other day I heard Leo say that he wished he hadn’t started doing video, since nobody else does it. Phooey! First of all, um, YouTube? I may be in a minority, but I prefer video to audio feeds. And from TWiT I’ve always watched and listened to the netcasts. Keep up the good (video!) work!!!

Hi everyone.

I’m Ian and I live in the UK. I got into Twit TV about 4 or 5 years ago when I first found a podcast called TWIG and AAA. I was hooked after that and started listening to a lot of the shows. I watch the shows once they are posted up and I can watch them on the fire stick.

I live in Alnwick in the UK. About a mile away from Alnwick Castle (where Harry Potter was filmed).

I play around with cameras so I’m looking forward to seeing Ant’s new show.

Here is one of my pictures of the castle.

It’s nice to meet you all!

First discovered Leo about 15 years ago as a teenager with insomnia, how you ask? It was one of his old call in shows, screened on Australian cable/satellite at some obscene hour of the morning and as I was flicking through the channels I managed to catch the end of a woman who had a similar problem as me in regards to networking I think from memory.

I sorta grew out of that and forgot all about the tech guy until stumbling upon Twitcraft where I got involved for a few years before the doors were shut down. During that time I started then subscribing to my favourite shows and here we are today.

Whilst I was a huge video lover my favourite way to consume Twit is through the Audio podcasts on my way to and from work. Its about an hour commute for me each way so a great way to pass the time!

I’m another who dates back to the ZD-Net days. I called into the show a few times with questions.

I also collect experiments in high speed internet. I was a Sprint Ion customer. They dropped it after spending a billion dollars to get to to 1,000 customers, which means that a corporation actually spent a million dollars on me.

All things being equal, I think I’d have rather they had just given me the cash.

Now, I’m a Google Fiber customer.

No, I don’t think it’s ironic that I’m using my gigabit upload speed to type text on a web forum. Not at all.

I appeared on the New Screen Savers, Episode #49 talking about my business shooting concert videos.

Hey everyone, I’m Al. I live in San Antonio, TX, but I’m from Kansas City, originally. I’ve been reading through all of these intros and have been trying to remember how I was first introduced to the TWiT shows. I think it must have been through Gina Trapani, at Lifehacker. I was a longtime fan of that site, and must have ended up listening to TWiG or AAA, and I’m still listening.

I’m excited to be a part of this community; I usually only listen during commutes, so my community involvement to this point has been mostly passive.

I used to listen to the radio show on KGO 810 in San Francisco. Always drove me nuts the questions people called in with but still…it was better than other talk radio. I heard Leo mention his “other network” so I googled it and found TWiT. Was pleased to find out that the TWiT studio was local to me. A few weeks later, I was in the TWiT cottage as I worked for a local ISP at the time and they were looking for a new provider. Ended up not going with my company though…oh well.

Several years later, I was walking the streets of Petaluma and I walked by the brick house and was invited in by the receptionist since he saw me peeking in the window. Leo was recording the radio show so couldn’t be bothered. Also didn’t wanna be annoying so I left.

I still live local to TWiT up in Santa Rosa and I have been in IT for all my adult life and I love it. I work in IT for a local real estate company in Marin County. My whole team listens to various TWiT shows and we often discuss them at work. We have even purchased services from hearing about them on TWiT.

I typically listen to TWiT and Windows Weekly but occasionally will listen to Triangulation when there is an interesting guest. I subscribe on stitcher and listen to them on my commute.
