WW 654: I Hate Products, She Hates People

I enjoyed watching Dvorak back on ZDTV. He was a character…

I would say Windows Weekly is my favourite TWiT show. Far from hating on Microsoft, I think Paul is a great supporter of Microsoft, but is frustrated by the messaging and missteps Microsoft makes quite frequently. Same as frustration with Google and Android, and I would say the same kind of comments are made about Apple and MacOS/iOS. Paul is a Microsoft journalist, so his expertise and criticisms are geared towards that. I would expect any journalist that specialises on a particular platform to be similarly focused on that platform.

I’m a Brit and I identify with Paul’s dry and sometimes sarcastic wit/humour. Mary Jo is a good counterpoint to this. Makes for an entertaining show that is also packed with information.

Last half of the show was awesome. Much nicer tone. Super informative as always.

Regarding multiple monitors:

Paul may be a bit of a curmudgeon at times, but he is generally correct in his assertions! I prefer iOS and MacOS to Windows (I run 1 Windows 10 and 1 Linux machine) - but I watch WW every week because that’s where the real MS journalism happens

I am primarily a Linux guy and I would never use windows if I can do what I need with Linux. Having said that I do own windows and use windows at work.
I follow WW because MS is one of the great tech companies with great innovation talent, although the implementation of the ideas is often not great.
I like that the hosts are critical of MS, that means that they expect high quality products from them as they should and they are not just cheerleading.
We definitely need more of that for other major companies as well.

I love Paul’s accentuated take and MaryJo’s balancing perspective. However, sometimes it really becomes difficult to pinpoint and understand especially Paul’s opinion.

From this episode, e.g., I’ve taken away that Windows 10 is both awesome and horrible and Windows 7 is what used to be good about Windows but Microsoft is going in a great direction - there is no arguing that.

I love hyperbole for entertainment like the next guy, but there are so many curves in that road that after listening I wonder what I heard. Maybe that’s part of the fun, but it’s not always fully comprehensible. Might be going too quickly and to complex for a radio show. Then again, this entertainment factor might be why I tune in every week.

Windows Weekly is sometimes like the temple of Delphi - needs interpreting.

Similar: turned linux half a year ago and am not looking back. Still listen to WW since it’s entertaining and in most cases - to kind of confirm the point of the op - a great source of reasons not to turn back.

Let me try: Microsoft is jealous of Apple, so they created a “Mobile Windows” that failed, then they created an"app store" that failed and then they made a success of services (aka Azure) and now Apple is copying them as a service company. They’re both jealous of Google’s advertising revenue and Amazon’s clout in online services. None of the old school OS providers are part of the future and none of the the hardware manufactures can rely on their “monopoly” for long term profits. I for one am scared of our future AmaAppleMicroGoogaSoft overlords.

That may or may not be a) snark b) humour c) insightful.

Wow what a great discussion here. This is my favorite show on the network. I also choose to use Windows and I’ve always enjoyed power productivity while also being frustrated a lot with MS choices.

Paul is an amazing journalist. Since reading his work and listening to his podcasts for years now I tend to go into the show leaning towards assuming Paul is correct about most things (which he usually is). However I do agree with @P_J somewhat on this. Especially after this week’s episode I was a little exhausted by the end of it.

@MaryJo I know Paul and you are not trying to deride MS and it’s users and call us idiots however admittedly sometimes it does feel that way. Sometimes I end a show thinking “Jeez I guess I shouldn’t be excited for Duo/Neo and Windows10 X” or like “God maybe my enthusiasm for Windows is misplaced”. I get that Paul is critical and usually that’s healthy and an important perspective to introduce but occasionally (like this episode) I leave more deflated than informed. Just trying to be honest here.

I’m also a salty New Englander who tends to say what I think and I think that might be part of the reason why I like Paul’s journalism so much and can relate to his perspectives and personality. However I can still see the other side of the argument here that 1.5 hours of “Terrible” can be hard to listen to and tiring.

This is my favorite show and I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in to try to make it better.

Although I do not use Windows at home, MS is one of the great tech companies, they are one of the major cloud providers so I do use their services and products for work. If it was up to me I would still avoid windows, but not necessarily their cloud offerings.

It always makes sense to keep an eye in the great tech companies. Plus it seems to me that Nadela is a really smart guy guiding the company to a model that makes sense. WW is a great way of keeping in touch with the ecosystem.

Windows Weekly is my favorite show on Twit. I have been listening to it since it began. Love Paul’s take on it because he is honest and yes, wants it to be better. I have learned a lot as a Windows user by listening to this show. Mary Jo has been a great addition to it as well. It’s great to have her side of things too.
I always enjoyed listening to Dvorak as well, miss him on TWIT.
