That’s kind of adorable.
I have a Bose 3 in one system that is 25 years old…
Other then that me!
I have an HP 48g graphing calculator from 1997 and I use it every day. Seriously. I love reverse polish notation. Once your brain works that way, you can’t go back. 32k of ram ought to be enough for anybody.
Got the chance to snap my 1974 calculator. Much more basic, but hey, it works:
And look what else I found: a Palm M105 with fancy fascia and stylus, in a leather case:
Edit: that “micro” calculator is 4" x 2.75" x 1" (102x70x27mm).
Wow! That’s priceless.
I have a TEAC reel-to-reel tape player from the 60s. So, over 50 years old. Last checked it was still functioning, but that was a few years ago (currently in storage). I should dig it out and re-test.
ok you win for coolest old gadget… I haven’t played with one of TEAC’s for. years
Just looking around I’m pretty sure this Bryston 2B fixed gain amplifier is my oldest piece of tech right now, at 30-something years. With a Chromecast Audio plugged in the back it’s the ultimate Sonos killer.
Older than 1955. Dad like it and rebuilt once. Keeps good time if you have a good power company.
45 years isn’t bad for an alarm clock. I had three of them when I was a kid - one even had a cassette deck in it - but all of them stopped working many years ago now.
Mine would be a TI-99/4A home computer, or if you’re talking PC’s, a 533MHz Pentium II Celeron. Both of those have been heavily modified since they were new, though, and in the PC only the board, RAM, sound and video card are the original - case, DVD (originally CD) drive, fans, power supply, hard drive are all much newer.
In terms of consumer electrical, I suppose it would be my desk lamp, which is about 40 years old, or an old corded POTS handset, which would be a similar age (an early DTMF-enabled model).
I agree RPN is the best way to enter data on a calculator - HP!!!
I think my oldest piece of still operating tech is my Commodore SX-64 portable! I bought it in 1984 when it first came out! It has a built in 5” COLOR display
All I have to say to that is SYS 64738
Also did you know why it’s called the SX? Tramiel said it was because it makes you think of “sex” and sex sells.
That’s kind of like Tesla’s car naming scheme - S, 3, X, Y
LOL - reset!!! I love this old machine. I never heard that story about Jack Tramiel!! My understanding was the SX was Single Executive (1 drive) vs. the DX or Double Executive (2 drives) - I was never able to find a DX
Atare 130XL here as far as computers go.
Witchcraft! The hands are not connected to anything! Witchcraft!
Burn it! Burn it!
I have a Kaypro that looks much like this. I haven’t tried to fire it up in decades, but it sits like a shrine in my bookcase. It holds a dear place in my heart.
