UPDATE: Power is back. We resume our shows at 10:30a Pacific tomorrow

lets hope they do find the on-switch back in the dark.

:sunflower: :sunglasses:

5 days wow, why not use a temporary low budget hosted solution like Restream.io ? The folks at Big Daddy Linux are using it.

Hosting is not the problem. Our hosting is fine. But we have a 5500 square foot studio with lights, switchers, cameras, microphones, etc. that has no power. You can’t really put that in the cloud. And it would be prohibitively expensive - and a bear to setup - an alternative space.

Pretend TWiT is a restaurant. If the power goes out there’s not much we can do but eat the ice cream. We’ll be back in a day or two.

Problem is that a popular TWiT show can be going out in three video formats as well as audio, all of which has to be professionally mixed and edited, and that will mostly need specialist kit which is on-site at the studio. The hosting is not a problem if I understand it correctly.

Yeah, they probably are doing the best they can. Turning off the power for large swathes of a state is not something you do lightly. Still, I can totally understand why anyone would be annoyed and upset. You’ve effectively been sent back to the 19th century until the power is restored.

I know this will stir irrational anger in some, but this is a peek into our climate-changed future. And frankly, this is nothing compared to what it’s going to be like in a few decades.

You’d be amazed at the number of people who still think climate change is a hoax even as we begin to live its consequences.

i understand, its not ideal and you cant do much live editing, yt lets you keep live data some time and live feeds get recorded by twitch too for later editting, buts you can remotely host 2 or more guests and do a live stream it in seconds to yt and all the other sites.

mmm at least theres now as much you can eat melting icecream in your restaurant ? … well luckely there is rerun time plenty years of twit to watch

Stay safe out there!

Now everybody will be barbecuing and camping out thanks to no power in their kitchens. This doesn’t seem the smartest way to prevent forest fires.

Speaking of, quick, eat all the ice cream before it melts!

I hope everyone is safe.

Really sorry to hear this is happening and glad that everyone at TWiT is safe…

Stay safe. Our area in San Diego is doing a drill to prepare people for this in the coming weeks. Sad to say but this is the new norm for California.

Time to go solar, guys.

They would have to go solar and buy like 10 tesla power walls to stay online during a multiple-day power outage I would think.

For those of us far away and unaware specifically of what’s going on this provided context for me:

Good opportunity to try Night Mode!

Remember there are no guarantees that we will be on by Friday. PG&E aka Dumbasses said they will take 5 days to bring everyone back up. Wind factor in Petaluma is zero. What a load of BS.

Wow. That’s kind of messed up that they can just cut power so quickly like that.

Its not so much the wind in Petaluma, its the transmission lines. I feel sorry for the people being effected by this.
