Question of the day - What's your favorite movie(s)?

They were originally setting up Shia LaBeouf to be the next Indy I think, but I read somewhere at some point that he has really pissed off Spielberg and so that’s probably curtains for him in any Indy movie. (I think this link is probably one of many https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/sep/07/shia-labeouf-i-dont-like-the-movies-that-i-made-with-spielberg-indiana-jones )

Adding a second one to my choice: Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.

Any talk on who will star? Will there be an Indiana Jones (and will Harrison Ford star in the role) or will they have a new character? Harrison is really getting too old to play such an active character and I really hope Shia won’t star in it (just a personal dislike of his acting)! I love the Indiana movies…even the Crystal Skull one.

Anyone know?

I think Harrison Ford is the only one signed up at the moment.

There is supposedly a sequel in the works, but I don’t think Kurt Russell is in it.

Well for what it’s worth, Harrison is already slated in IMDB Harrison Ford - IMDb

I agree… not a huge fan of him or his style.

There will be another sequel of the Matrix coming… Not sure how I feel about that, though…

Me either. The two follow ups left me wanting…I’m not sure what and I wasn’t disappointed as much as it was not as absorbing as the first one. If they could recreate the emotional high I had in the first one, I’d be quite pleased!

I was just thinking of some of the films that shaped my youth, as opposed to absolute favourites.

Films like:
Ferris Bueller’s day off
American Graffiti
Breakfast Club
Streets of Fire
Crime Story (this was released as a direct-to-video film in the UK, then a TV series followed, not sure if a feature length pilot was the video).
Electric Dreams
I also liked Dazed and Confused, which seems to be American Graffiti for the next generation.

Ferris, Breakfast Club and 'Graffiti are classics, but the others were important films that have all but been forgotten.

I hear ya! I can confess Ferris Bueller’s Day off and John Hughs’ movies like Breakfast club shaped my youth too. Good memories and good times.

Since people are bringing up movies that impacted their youth… Does anyone remember the days before digital cable when they would have a Playboy channel (or equivalent) that would be “scrambled”? The shows were aired late at night, and back then you didn’t have a TV in every room because the old analog beasts were expensive. Anyway, I remember being, say 12 or so and sneaking into the living room at like 3am and trying not to wake up my mom so I could watch/listen to a “scrambled” Alice in Wonderland porn parody so I could get my first glimpse of lady parts.

Given current world events, I am going to mention “Wag the Dog”.

i remember a scrambled service known as Super TV here in the the Untied States around that time that needed a special satellite and convertor to get unscrambled. My Uncle had the channel, no porn but R rated movies though. Pretty cool back then for this ten year old

Some really ancient one I like:

  • Some kind of wonderful
  • Star Wars - OG Trilogy
  • The Final Countdown - OG Top Gun
  • The Matrix
  • Bill & Ted
  • Memphis Belle
  • Gross Anatomy - Obscure movie with young Matthew Modine…
  • The day after tomorrow
