I first started watching and listening to podcasts on the Twit network back in 2011 when I heard about this guy named Leo.
Hi All! I’ve been a @Leo guy since The Screen Savers days, when I couldn’t believe someone had put something so relevant to my career and interests on TV. From the Detroit area and working there currently as an enterprise IT guy (currently PMing a Dynamics 365 implementation). TWiT podcasts really saved my sanity when I was consulting and driving all over Michigan, not to mention keeping me informed and current on the industry. Love being here for the start of this community.
Hey @Leo I sent you a private message about this a few days ago. No worries if you’re busy.
As for my actual intro:
Greetings all,
I’ve been here for about a week but have been listening and watching since the beginning of TWiT and the actual launch of TechTV when I was a kid. The same is still true, it’s about the personalities, which I’ve always been able to fit in with, not just anyone at the TWiT studio but the guests of the past and present who’ve been around for decades.
I live in Canada and it’s the best place in the world to live. I started using computers since I was kindergarten and have been drawn to technology ever since. I liked reading about it in magazines and slowly convincing everyone I needed my own computer but like Bill Gates I was determined to do something with my talents. I grew up in a small town and in a small family so there was nothing around to do except make my own entertainment.
In my present life, I now work with the brightest people at an R&D facility as a Systems Integrator in a highly competitive market. I’ve become an integral part to the management team, support and infrastructure, as well as the company for my skills and experience. Over 9 years working with servers, networking, VoIP, software testing and cloud deployment/management.
Even when I’m not at the office, I’m taking personal calls and giving advice. When social media took off, I figured I’d join in with the online crowd and make friends and connections. I’ve also learned to have a voice and speak out.
I like reading all sorts of things, from Sci-Fi to biographies. I’m great at photography. I like Jazz and the piano. I’ll watch or listen to things but generally I like the latest trends and keeping up with events so I’ll watch the news or go through Youtube vlogs. I also like comedy a great deal although no one will ever laugh at my puns.
I’m around all over the place online and generally like getting new ideas and meeting people along the way. I hope to be here for a long time and contribute where I can to make TWiT a better place.
Thank you.
Hey everyone,
I am a broadcast engineer with a long daily commute so I spend that time listing to the TWIT network. I’m very excited to see the development of this community.
Hi, been watching and listening to Leo for years and when I heard today on iOS weekly (Amazon flash brief) that there was a discourse at twit.community I jumped on over here to check it out definitely one in on the ground floor. Look forward to some great discussions and lots of learning and more information!
Thanks for a great place to hang everyone @ This Week in Tech,!
I’m an 83 year old retired software engineer. I got my first job in the computer field in 1968 after 10 years of teaching HS physics, math. Most of my programming experience was assembly language on various computers. My favorite was the PDP/11. I have written some FORTRAN, C and Pascal apps. I wrote mostly system software while working for large corporations and later a few application programs when I was self-employed for six years. I retired in Jan 1998. I now play with computers at home. I build my own PCs and have projects with SBCs and Arduinos.
I have updated my profile, typing this on my 2009 Macbook Pro on Catalina. I caught The Screen Savers back in the day, tried to stay with Attack of the Show, but have stayed subscribed to TWIT, and MacBreak Weekly. My favorite Twit memories are when Leo’s excecise ball exlploded on air(The video is PRICELESS) and the All day New Years Day programs from a couple of years ago. I’m the Tech Guy for my family…
So happy you joined! Happy Sunday! @MaryJo

I tried participating in the chat a few times but found things moved too quickly for me, and just made my head spin
Same with me. This is much more enjoyable.
Thanks for shaking my ol’ memory to computers from my past:
IBM PC XT and AT
Compaq suitcase “portable” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compaq_Portable
Compaq 286, 386
Anyone else ever own a Northgate? Loved their keyboards. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northgate_Computers
You’re much more than “guy with camera”, Chris Marquardt! But modest, yes. You’re a highly intelligent & valued associate in my book. Literally, ahaha. “Real Views” photography manual is getting closer by the week. Talk soon.
Living in Taiwan is pretty cool in the sense that I am in a “free country” like the United States, and I can still experience the latest Taiwanese PC hardware and all the Taiwanese and Chinese smartphones, IoT, etc. at this amazing electronics mall that has all the flagship stores. And…no sales tax! You gotta shop for all those kinds of things here if you ever visit.
@Karl That is super cool! Thank you for sharing. No sales tax huh? I will make sure to remember that if/when I visit.
I discovered TWiT in August of 2007. Specifically MacBreak Weekly 51 Chocolate Rain. I was immediately hooked and have listened to every MBW since then. Soon after discovering TWiT I added in other TWiT shows. Today my typical weekly playlist includes This Week in Tech, MBW, Windows Weekly, TWiG, IOS Today and the occasional All About Android and TWiT Specials. I hope to make it to Petaluma some day and see the TWiT Studio in person.
I miss the original MBW crew Leo, Merlin, Scott, Alex and Andy. Those were the best of the best of the best of the best, but now Rene and Lory are fabulous additions. Missing Alex lately though too. (He’ll most likely return shortly (maybe with Leo’s missing salad?)
Thanks Leo and the whole crew for hours and hours of great programs!!
Hi to All,
Started watching TWIT TV a few years back and really enjoy all the shows. I have to challenge myself and ask… do I watch a movie or TWIT TV… it’s often a hard choice, so I try to do both and stay up very late.
Originally from Canada I came to New Zealand in the 70’s on a one-way ticket, fell in love with the place and stayed. Though in saying that I have also travelled a lot through places like Australia, South East Asia, India, Nepal, UK, Canada, USA, NZ and some Pacific Islands. With that came a large variety of jobs as I made my way from place to place.
First exposure to computers was in 1985 where I learned Cobol Programming at a Technical Institute and from there broke ice on a friends dual floppy Tandy XT. Loved the old DOS days and a great place to change direction and work into sales. This eventuated in starting my own company with a 50% partnership in Datastor Ltd. We were importers/distributors for many brands of high performance computer hardware until I sold my shares and went beach. (sort of bush, but with waves)
These days things are relaxed while I putter away doing a host of things from computer related to cooking & BBQ’s, fishing & camping, reading, listening to music, collecting and watching movies and likely playing too many computer games.
Ah, life is good…
Oh ya, I’m not particularly proficient at any of the above and or the tech side, but I do like to play with the different bits, dabble and have a go.
Heck, mis-typed my old company name which should have read Datastor NZ Ltd.
Wanted to learn how to type (on a computer) in 1985, ended up doing Cobol, then sales and then moved to distribution and still can’t type worth a darn.
Hello! I just heard from Twit Oct 6th episode. I like this idea of being able to chat/communicate when I watch/listen to the show.
I am have been developing software for 24 years doing all types of code and framework. Mostly server based web application, continue to do tech/code in several different avenues. Looking forward to the community.
I also do a little Photography on the side. Loving the new iPhone 11 Pro Max. If you haven’t, go take pics at night. Wow!
@BGeek We hope you can make it to visit at some point in the near future! Thank you for being such a super fan!
