Trust me, there is a tech component to this post.
I’m a Rotarian. Any others in the community? If you are looking for a way to help your community and the world, I highly recommend you look into joining a local club. They are everywhere, around the globe.
In 1979, Rotary International joined the fight to eradicate polio from the world. Since that time, Rotary has raised over a $1 billion dollars toward that effort. When Bill and Melinda Gates (okay…there’s the tech tie-in) decided to get involved they partnered with Rotary and other organizations like UNICEF and WHO. Every year they match $2 for $1 (up to $50 million per year) donated to End Polio Now initiative.
I’ve heard @Leo mention a few times that the Bill Gates is giving money to this effort, but never mentions the whole story and how we Rotarians have been in this fight for a long time. This Community has given me the opportunity to fill in the details.
Tomorrow, October 24th, is World Polio Day. If you want to learn more about the fight and even donate (I did), please go to https://www.endpolio.org/
P.S. Spread the word.
Thank you!
