Ugh Passkeys. Ugh authentication in general. I completely agree with Richard’s concept that at some point, a person needs to have a bit of agency over their digital identity.
I also used to watch the TV show “Cops” when it aired, and now I watch the “On Patrol Live” show. I always think to myself, that person in handcuffs for stealing his neighbors lawnmower or whatever, does that person have the slightest idea that they even have a digital identity?
The successful solution will always be the one that’s accessible to the lowest common denominator user, and it’s how we ended up with auth via SMS and/or email. Passwords are a hold-over from before every person in the country had a computer in their pocket, and in my experience, the L.C.D. user can’t even handle that. I find it hugely depressing.

Watching people intentionally forget their password and always use the “email a link to let me in” told me all I needed to know about the future of passwords
