@thurrott mentioned the versatility of 2-in-1 convertible laptops with touch, and why does Apple keep a clear dividing line between tablets/phones with touch and macs that don’t have it.
I’ve been exploring this recently with my main photography laptop (now a Win 11 PC with touch that I can use as a tablet with a pen) and the big blocker is you can’t have UI elements that work for both scenarios well. Not unless you have an OS and app that switches completely into some touch-only mode.
So the pen is great when I am brushing edits on my photos, but the rest of the app interface needs a mouse i.e. pointer, left/right-click, scroll wheel and so on. All you get with a finger is tap, tap and hold/drag and maybe double-tap.
So I kinda get why Apple is not rushing to merge the two.
