What are your thoughts about today’s show? We’d love to hear from you!

Well, I LOVED this episode. It made me laugh so much ( about Elon Musk and wired brains, and the jet pack incident) and then cry, listening to Ant talk about Chadwick Boseman. Thanks for sharing that, Ant.

Thanks for a really special TWiG this week @ant_pruitt. I am glad I was walking the dog and not driving when I heard you talking about Chad that was a very moving and inspirational speech and I had tears in my eyes. That really brought tears to my eyes. My condolences to you and his family.

And don’t put yourself down in that context, you have come a long way as well and are an inspiration to others. :fist_right:

The bit about the most like tweet disturbed me a bit. And why I find “like” and the hearts wrong on Twitter. For me, that means, hey this is a great thing! And somebody dying isn’t great. I know what people mean by this, but it still feels emotionally wrong to “like” the message. To upvote it and re-tweet it, yes.

yeah i don’t like “like” for some things like that, but I get it. It’s just “acknowledgement.” Thank you for listening to our shows, sir. I really do appreciate it. Chad is a helluva man and inspiration for many people.

Also, thanks for the kind words about me. I’m still a work in progress. :fist_right:t5:

Do we know if Google are deprecating ALL cookies or just tracking cookies? Deprecating session cookies, meaning it can no longer tell if you’re logged into a website, might be an issue

It’s 3rd party cookies… as these are mostly used for tracking.

All the Australia talk but y’all didn’t bring up what’s happening in Melbourne?!
Some of it even deals with Facebook posts!

Due to the location of the presenters, a lot of regional (i.e. non-US) news only gets covered lightly and then often with the US Big Tech view on what is happening.

Jeff has repeatedly misrepresented the Right to be Forgotten, only repeating the Google FUD and never actually explaining why the Google FUD is wrong and why they deliberately misinterpreted the law. His reactions are as if he has never actually read the law and never read the local press (not surprising as 90% of it isn’t in English).

The same for Leistungsschutzrecht (and now the Australian equivalent). You get the Google/Facebook FUD take on it and the rebuttals from the government are ridiculed with more G/F FUD and not an actual study of what the law is supposed to achieve. (The line about being forced to pay for content is, from what I’ve read, not the case, publishers can ask for payment, but it isn’t a requirement that they are paid.)

With the Leistungsschutzrecht, it was mainly Axel Springer Verlag that wanted it, but the other publishers were ridiculing the idea, yet that was never covered by Jeff or TWiG.

The same for GDPR and the now defunct Privacy Shield, they pay lip service to it, yet they fail to take the US Government to task for sabotaging Big Tech in the USA. With Privacy Shield, the US Government agreed, in 2015, after a decade of not conforming with Safe Harbour, that the data could be held in the USA without being subject to FISA, Patriot Act and National Security Letters etc. and that they would provide a permanent ombudsman, responsible for complaints from EU citizens. The US Government were issued with non-compliance notices in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, before the Schrems II court case got Privacy Shield - and thus the storage of data relating to EU citizens’ data in any US tainted cloud illegal - overturned.

GDPR is mostly ridiculed as the “cookies law” and the abject failure of the US Government to fulfil their side of the deal is hardly even mentioned.

I love @Leo and the TWiT network, but it is very furstrating when thing like EU or the current Australian debacle are covered. The big picture is often glossed over and the story seems to be based on US Big Tech press releases and the repetition they find in the blogosphere, not on what is actually happening on the ground. I realise that it can be hard, if most of the US blogs are following the Big Tech company line, going out and reading deep reporting in German is hard work for a non-German speaking researcher (and Google Translate is atrocious at acurately translating between German and English).

For most topics, it is a real treat to listen to the TWiT team talking, but on a few specialist subjects, like legal changes overseas, it can sometimes be frustrating.

With GDPR and the Right to be Forgotten, I was working for a German IT company making partnerships with US companies. I had to actually read through the implementations of the GDPR and RtbF, in German.

The third pig in the Neurolink had the device for 3 months and than got it removed. Elon also said that Neurolink part of the FDA’s Breakthrough Devices Program.

This was a great show. I especially liked hearing Ant’s thoughts on growing up around Chad, and how Ant was affected by the Black Panther character and Chad’s passing. The more I hear and watch Ant, the more impressive he becomes as a member of the TWiT staff.

Thank you Ant for sharing, this was special.

I think TWiT should have a “Special Moments” channel (TWiT Bits might not be the best choice), and this part of the video should go right there.
