Texting on windows

Hi, I hope somebody can help me. I don’t have a cell phone. I am looking for something where I can have a free phone number to text and received a text on my PC. Is there anything like that which is good and safe?

Thank you,
Claudia

Google Voice is what you need.

You could find a cheap used Android cell phone (or a new low price one) and not bother to put a SIM in it (i.e. not supply it with cell service.) Then you would be able to use apps that do this, such as TextNow. I have used TextNow, it’s not that expensive (potentially free, but very limited, if you want to get things like 2nd factor codes they require you to spend about $10 for a year.) Could probably also use an iOS device (like an iPad) though that would probably be more expensive. You could look into something like BlueStacks to try and run Android apps on a PC, but I have never done this, and I don’t know if it would work.
