Problem installing iOS 14.5.1

Apple released another update. I have installed it fine on iPad, but the software update screen on iPhone seems to have become corrupted and I cannot tap on install. Has anyone else seen this and know how to get out of it?

Just tried it on my SE and it went through fine.

Have you tried restarting the iPad?

iPad was fine. It is my iPhone 11 that is having the problem. I have tried restarting multiple times.

I might have to just wait for the prompt to install or undate via USB.

Ah, I misread, I hadn’t had my coffee.

On the iPad you can press and hold the “home button” while subsequently pressing and holding the power button until “resprings.” I don’t know if the iPhone has something similar, and I don’t know if it would help, but might be worth a try if you can do it.

Not sure on iPhone - no home button! I don’t think it would help anyway as it’s the settings app rather than Springboard. I’ll just connect up using USB tonight and try updating via Finder on the Mac.

I guess Apple calls that a Forced Restart:

EDIT: By respring, I thought you meant restarting Springboard. Yes, have restarted several times.

Updated successfully connected to Mac.

I currently have this exact issue with the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Tried iTunes via Windows and obviously this didn’t work

Might soft reset and give it another go as I’m really not keen to try a hard reset.

I’m glad mine went through okay.

It is a work phone and we don’t have any Macs, we aren’t allowed iTunes on work PCs and we aren’t allowed to connect work smartphones to non-work devices.

I think I’d be stuck with soft or hard reset.

No management of the iOS devices then? We used to get this, folks would rush out to update their phones and iPads (beta versions sometimes) then start raising tickets that all our corporate apps weren’t working…

We are currently working on implementing it. It was on the to-do list for about 3 years.

We don’t have any corporate apps. The users can use the phone to make phone calls with and to look up email. They have no access to the store and can’t install any additional apps.

Yeah we went through the same process. BYOD was suddenly a thing, we eventually realised the workload was too much supporting everyone’s devices (we had SAP, O365 and various bespoke apps they used) so we implemented MDM - and most of the BYOD folks refused to allow it so they disappeared

The introduction of MDM at my company led to a surge in company-issued devices. No way I’m giving my employer the ability to remotely detonate my phone. So now I carry both an original iPhone SE for work and a 12 Pro Max for personal use.

Sounds like a fun place. :upside_down_face:

We were not the only ones having issues with 14.5.1. Thankfully, updated fine over USB for me. iPad and Apple Watch updated too. Now MacOS is waiting for me to restart to finish updating.

Exactly what happened at our place, everyone wanted a separate work phone, BYOD was suddenly less attractive when we asked them to adhere to our security policies. Was fine on my Android - I hated carrying two phones around so accepted the MDM stuff.

Well that was painful. Even factory reset didn’t work here, had to resort to a DFU restore. Done them before but always a little nerve-racking.

It is the other way round here, no way the company will let company data on non-company devices.
