Leo stated on the oct 16th show that is was hard or even impossible to get color accurate photos of sunsets. I have taken tones of really assume sunset photios over Mt tam in the Bay Area on my Pixel 2Xl. Most of these picture are very accurate in color and contrast and brightness. With the HDR feature in the pixel, I take the photos a little on the dark side. These come out spectacular. My Canon 70d could not take a good sunset photo.! The second photo is the color that showed in the view finder the orange red photo is the accurate color.

Purdy area and capture. I don’t want to speak for Mr. Laporte, but I think what he meant was cameras struggle to compete with what I eyes see because quite frankly, cameras aren’t as sophisticated as the cones and rods in our retinas. Then you have weirdos like myself that frames a shot and has a totally imaginative view when I click the shutter. Of course the camera didn’t see my imagination or emotion, but I try to replicate it in post. Lol!
Yes, I understand. I used to shot with a canon 70D, 60D, and before that 10D camera. i also took Black and White a darkroom class at Northwestern University.
My point is even with my Pixel 2 Xl with the updated Pixel 3 camera app. Most of the time I come upon a scene and in the past could never quite capture it as I saw the scene with my Canon. But with my Pixel 2 XL WITH HDR turned on. Almost every time the image comes out perfect. I crop in slightly. I don’t even need to edit the photo. So photo just come out better that I saw the Scene with my own eyes. Maybe crop a little if any thing in editing. Sunset photos from my Pixel 2 XL also come out just as my eye see the scene. Amazing. I do click around the scene and let Pixel adjust the exposure. I find taking the shot slightly on the darker side makes the colors pop and more accurate color. Mainly because the image is not blown out. I just keep HDR on all the time. I tried HDR+, and HDR Enhanced. I can not tell any difference between the 2 settings.
I can’t wait for my Pixel 4 XL to arrive.
it took a long time for me to embrace the auto HDR options. I’m a person that tends to shoot under exposed (unless I’m shooting headshots). I want those crushed black levels, but that’s must my “style.”
