Apple already has huge data centers. Not sure they will have additional expenditures for AI.
None of those data centers have any AI capability and are being used for other things, plus, they don’t have many, they currently only have 10, and only 1 in the EU, which is probably why they aren’t releasing AI in the EU to start with, they will need to build a new data center there or have a co-lo deal.
A lot of their non-AI stuff is still outsourced to run on AWS and Azure.
So, their non-AI stuff is currently well beyond the capacity of their own data centers, that means ripping all the kit in those data centers out and replacing it with AI kit isn’t an option; there might be some capacity to add a few racks, but in general they will either need to outsource everything that isn’t AI and retro fit the data centers or they will need to add new data centers specifically used to host the AI, building out the new infrastructure will be cheaper than throwing away perfectly good kit and moving it to a rent model on AWS and Azure.
Sorry for being pedantic. I want to use this post as a log for when I hear noises.
around the 28 minute mark there was someone typing up a storm, I heard Apple Watch chimes, sounded like a typewriter at one point.
Around the 48 minute mark. It sounds like someone is playing with those wooden block toys you’d find at a doctor’s office. It continues for a few minutes.
I don’t know if that’s the producer; but he needs to remember to mute his microphone. It makes listening on headphones very unpleasant.
(Leo acknowledged he was typing at the 50 minute mark. Maybe my mystery is solved?)
On the topic of Homebrew: they’re making an enterprise option since they finally wanna start making money. The maintainer has had a dayjob all these years
It was funny that Andy described a reader view on android. That is already built into Safari on both Mac & iOS. It is called reader view. I use this all the time.
I think all the major browsers have had this feature for some time. I thought Andy was discussing a system wide feature and not something specific to just the web browser.
