When is the next YellowGold album dropping?

Not just Samsung. Google and Apple are heartbreakingly expensive too. Except the Pixel 3a XL, that’s a nice phone for a good price.

The lovefest the 3a gets just for returning us back to Nexus pricing :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s a decent phone and the camera is good, but that sensor is in even less expensive phones. Went with the Xiaomi Mi8 Lite, and it’s not appreciably worse than my Note9 was (which was a good phone but literally cost more than 5x the price).

I don’t trust Google devices; not even talking about their data collection, but the actual device quality. Mixed reports of their past few phones besides the 3A, and I had a faulty 5X that needed to be RMAed (only phone I’ve ever had die, out of a few dozen smartphones, including cheapo $20 smartphones) so I am personally wary of Google.

The update guarantee might be worth the premium if you keep the phone for more than a year, though.

True. Apple led the way with daft pricing and unfortunately others followed.

That is great, it is one of my favorite segments. So far it has kept me firmly in the Apple camp, but one day that could change.
BTW, I love you and Mikah together.

@Captain_Sam I agree about the duo of @mikahsargent and @JasonHowell :slight_smile:

hehe missed this: The plan right now is that I have a whole bucket full of new song ideas. This time around I want to lock myself in a cabin for a week with the sole purpose of recording everything for the new album. Likely to happen sometime in 2020. Ive always wanted to do that, and the material I’m working with at the moment would be perfect for that plan! I’m actually very excited to do this, and it’ll be nice to hopefully not spend two solid years working on it like I did with Fever Dreamer. (took FOR-E-VAH)

As a long time iPhone user I do still listen to the AAA show. just not every week. The reason i keep coming back is because of 2 things. I like to stay informed on the latest android devices and explore the idea of switching. (they might get me with that surface duo…). i also really enjoy hearing some of the topics like when y’all discuseed that Walmart tablet lol. i wouldnt buy it but i liked hearing your thoughts on it and the more technical factual info is very helpful. Your reviews are good because they refer to tech specs and relate that to real world use instead of just making objective opinions.

P.S. i also think your a good host specifically. I’m not sure if its your experience or oganization/preparation, but keep up the good work! (by host i mean the one person leading the conversation)

Hi Jason,

You mentioned on AAA recently (last month or two) a budgeting app that you use personally. I’ve not been able to find the reference after the fact. Would you mind giving this app a shout-out?

I bet it was YNAB, which I know @JasonHowell has recommended. There’s also a Triangulation episode with Jason interviewing Jesse Mecham, the founder of YNAB:

I expect it is definitely YNAB (You Need A Budget.) I have a friend who is paying the monthly fee, and swears by it. On the other hand, I tried the free month of it, and it would not work well for my use case at all. I sent many emails to support, and basically got repeated responses that amount to a reply similar to Apple’s antenna gate. (“You’re holding it wrong.”) They have a very specific intended use case, and it’s monthly. My mortgage is paid bi-weekly which means some months it is paid twice and some times it is three times. They had no answer for this, except to tell me I had the wrong expectations.

I have a YNAB membership - money well spent. I’ve been a member for a few years now. When I’ve needed support, I just hit the little icon in the lower left of the page, and if someone isn’t there to chat, they get right back to me. I haven’t had any billing errors, but sometimes something will go wrong with the bank connection. But they’ve updated their system to hopefully fix those problems in the future. I haven’t had problems since their big update.

I probably have the wrong expectations for a budget program like YNAB. I don’t want to track my past, I want to plan my future. I don’t want it messing in my bank account, it’s not going to get access to my transaction data.

It not being able to work on a future paycheck to paycheck basis (bi-weekly) was a serious problem for my household… so I stick with a simple spreadsheet.

Almost certainly YNAB. Its the service I use to manage my accounts and budgets and I am smitten by it. It literally changed my relationship with money from something that provoked anxiety, to something I felt complete control over.

Having a hard time understanding what you mean by not being able to work on a future paycheck… You mean the way that YNAB encourages you to be working with money you already have and not living off the next paycheck? That, IMO, is the power of YNAB. It’s way safer that way. It takes a bit of pain when setting it up to get “ahead” but once you are, it’s such good peace of mind.

Correct me if I’ve misunderstood. I’m curious to know.

Well, you’re lucky you have a substantial income. Not all of us are as lucky as that. In my household, the biweekly income is less than $1200 and the monthly outgo is more than $2500… so the months when there is a third "extra paycheck " is all we have for a buffer. There is no savings, and everything has already been cut beyond the point of pain. It amounts to deciding which bill you’re going to let slide on a paycheck by paycheck basis, unfortunately. This is not a scenario that YNAB works well with.

Well, to be honest, its not about have a substantial income as much as it is about restructuring the budget so that slowly over time, you come out ahead enough to do it. It took my wife and I a solid year and a half to get to that point. It wasn’t easy, but we got there. And it was worth the work.

But believe me, I hear you. Before we were able to get there, we were using YNAB exactly in the way you are talking about: Spending NEXT paycheck for CURRENT expenditures. We found our rhythm in that paradigm, but yeah, its perhaps not ideal for that scenario.

Hi @JasonHowell. I really have enjoyed your hosting of TWIG with @ant_pruitt while @Leo has been away. Keep up the great work.

Also, related to the AAA poll, while I truly understand and support hosting the poll outside of a location requiring a login, I appreciate a link to the poll here in the community. I’m trying to stay engaged and this would help. :crossed_fingers:

Hi @JasonHowell,

Love your work on TWiT, particularly the hosting of AAA which is one of my favorite shows. You often add witty commentary which I like too. Don’t tell Leo but you do a great job on his shows when he’s away. My only request of you is please remember “anyways” is not a word. :smirk:

I have the HARDEST time remembering not to say that. It’s my vocabulary achilles heel! Thanks for the reminder. And for watching!
