How to keep cell phone waiting for the birds to pose?

All set up with tri-pod and remote shutter, waiting for the birds to pose in my window box feeder .Then photo app (Google) flips back to home screen. Any way to make this not happen.

What kind of phone, what OS and version?

I have no solution, but my Samsung S22U does this too. If you open the camera app, after 2 minutes it exits and returns to the home screen. My Pixel is slightly different, it just blanks the screen.

I’ve tried different camera apps, been though all the battery settings but you don’t seem to be able to change this behaviour.

Well I got my first “Critter” before the shutter closed. Hope to get better. Waiting for a real beauty to arrive.
