Had to stop listening in the middle of the windows/Microsoft discussion because of the constant uptalking from one of the panelists.
Called AQI here. Old wives’ tale is that Australian soap operas was where it came from, but it’s existed in many dialects, especially Irish, for decades.
Doesn’t bother me.
Nice to hear Ed Bott again on the show. Really enjoyed his commentary on Recall and how well the new Surface performed. I like how he works to keep the ‘everyman’ perspective.
I am always interested in Ed Bott’s comments on technology, and the wider world, and would have liked to listen to the whole of this episode. But I’m an old fogey and find it painful to hear the word ‘like’ being used continually (this is not gender-related, plenty of young men have the same habit). I admire Leo’s ability not to be affected by this but I had to stop watching.
Yes, it was great to have Ed Bott on TWiT again. I always find his perspectives on Windows insightful.
My Dad is into his drone photography, has a few DJIs and is about to get another.
Every alternative drone I can think of is Chinese too, so I don’t understand the focus on DJI instead of all drones made in China.
Dad mentioned some manufacturers license DJI tech for non-Chinese drones - what happens to them?
After all the talk about Kaspersky, I was waiting for/wanting a explanation of why someone would feel a need for 3rd party antivirus software. On my Windows machines, I use Microsoft’s antivirus.
For a private PC, I use the onboard MS AV as well. At work, we used Kaspersky, but have moved to Sophos.
For a business, it allows the monitoring of PCs for malware in real time, automatically blocking known malware or bad sites, for example, but it means that we get a heads-up when something is inbound and can batten down the hatches, before it gets too far - it can automatically isolate devices on the network, until they have been inspected, for example.
(Note, it monitors the PCs for malware, it does not monitor what the user is doing, apart from clicking on links to known malware sites or blocked sites.)
