Exactly correct! These are the kinds of hyperbole that cause problems
Really appreciate the additional information. I should know this - and I do now thanks to you!
It’s still and issue where people are sheep and not taught to question sources and understand that everyone has a bias. It is becoming incredible difficult to get plain facts and leave the interpretation to the people.
So who gets to decide which doctor or scientist to believe? Is it just the ones that the mainstream media supports? Because that doesn’t do it for me, they get so much stuff wrong. There have been many times in history when going with what the majority believed was not correct.
Or do we shun him Dr Malone because the vaccines are what makes us feel safe, so we latch onto that because we don’t have another option and we are “scared”. This would be the vaccine that was supposed to prevent us from getting COVID-19 that I am referring to.
Which is why medical studies and breakthroughs, like scientific studies and breakthroughs, are peer reviewed and false information weeded out, before they are given a public airing.
The problem is, a lot of people who have not had their work peer reviewed or had their work debunked still take to social media to give their views to people who can’t tell one way or another, whether what they are hearing is based on solid fact or complete bunkum.
Which is why there were studies and the results peer reviewed, before the vaccines were released to the public.
The safety and effectiveness of covid vaccines (in North America) are not in question. It is established FACT that billions of shots have been delivered with very few significant side effects for any of the recipients. It is also established fact that the majority of significantly bad outcomes (including death) are among the under-vaccinated (which also includes the unvaccinated.) If you can’t recognize and admit these facts, then we can’t have a meaningful further discussion.
You of course always get to decide what to believe. What always seems to get lost is not the importance of the media companies, but of the scientists worldwide whose life mission is to design scientifically rigorous studies, analyze the resulting data without bias, peer review said studies, account for sampling error, and present that information to the public in the most precise way possible, which will not say “you will never catch covid.”
For an example of just how rigorous the process is: I was involved in a post-mortem for a pharmaceutical client. Their new drug made it all the way to Stage 3 (meaning that they first demonstrated the effectiveness in animals, analyzed the chemical dynamics in the bloodstream, and showed that there was no egregious toxicity in their dosages) but it was ultimately denied approval by the FDA. Why? Because people tended to drop out of the study slightly higher in the treatment arm than the control. The FDA was concerned that people might be adversely affected by the drug and just choose not to continue the study.
There’s an incredible amount of scrutiny that scientists all over the world put on these things. Even if you don’t trust what @JeffJarvis calls the “dying media corporations”, at least trust the hundreds of thousands of good-natured people putting their efforts into poking holes in every claim made by companies. I’d love to see even a fraction of the protections the FDA provides translated over to the tech industry.
