The story is about development of the “Car Phone” Cell phones came much later when Martin Cooper perfected the Cell concept.
There were car radio phones in Europe in the late 50s and early 60s. He was talking about the first cell network for a car phone, which also bypassed the “mobile operator”, because the user could dial directly.
