Slight addition to a theory why some (older) folks don’t want to get into our bounce off of smart phones: the motivation is limited and the attention span has, in many cases, grown too short to learn something new that’s non-trivial. Focus is key to learning anything of some complexity and it seems to increase and decrease throughout life on an inverted U. Perfectly fine. Smart phones mostly have a way of only producing added value to the so-inclined.
