Star Trek: Picard

I just thought the arc went in too long.

I thought it was because it shows the episodes, but when I try to watch it through Amazon Prime, it prompts me to sign up for CBS All Access.

Oh, that stops the next episode from playing without your intervention. However on Apple TV it still starts a countdown timer that will go back to playing ā€œadsā€ for various shows. That is actually worse than just playing the next episode in my mind. #badUX

There should be an option to turn off the auto previews when browsing on the Netflix home screen - the two auto plays are separate. I don’t have Netflix currently so can’t check.

Yeah unfortunately, I think it only works on web browsers.

Yeah they announced that it only effected web based players not apps, and as for hardware players they must have their own built in options.

On the topic of watching Picard, does anyone know whether TWiT sponsor ExpressVPN can really let you watch Netflix (etc.) content from servers outside US? They explicitly claim this works in ads. I tried with my current VPN and a previous VPN, and couldn’t get either Prime Video or Netflix to play. The VPN’s IPs are often flagged by content platforms to prohibit this.

Maybe the funny thing is I would pay $100 for a year of VPN service but dont want to pay CBS for all access.

So fr, I’ve only seen the first 2 episodes. I need to watch #3.

I’ve tried ExpressVPN here in Australia and using BBC iPlayer was not a nice experience. YMMV.

I don’t use ExpressVPN but I have heard from multiple sources that they use IP’s that have not been flagged so they are supposed to work with streaming services.

I can confirm that I used Express VPN, connected to a server in London, to watch Discovery Season 2. The Amazon Fire Stick is nice because you can download & use the ExpressVPN app & Netflix on the same device, connected to your TV.

I decided that I want to support CBS All Access for Picard - my favorite Trek character and, so far, an awesome show.

Thanks for this answer @sezduck! It does seem like that’s would be easier to just get CBS/AA. I’m getting subscription fatigue though.

Yeah, I’m going to subscribe when Picard season has ended so I can watch an episode every night. Then Apple is going to have Asimov’s Foundation coming out later this year, so I’m probably going to have to subscribe for that. Perhaps resistance is futile.

Hmmm… I have my PVR set to automatically record new episodes, and I don’t have one from earlier tonight (Episode 4.) It shows for next week it will record Episode 5… so I wonder WTH Bell screwed up. (I only have it set to record NEW episodes, so if they didn’t tag Episode 4 as new, presumably by accident, then the PVR would have skipped it.) I will have to see if I can ā€œborrowā€ someone’s recording of Episode 4 maybe… grumble
