Just saw a tweet that made me remember, that I wanted to post a while back.
@Leo you and Steve were talking about nonces a while back. For a Brit, that is a hard term to come to grips with. A nonce is a sex offender in British slang. It comes from UK prisons (specifically HM Prison Wakefield) and means “Not On Normal Courtyard Exercise” i.e. they are segregated to stop them being attacked, similar to solitary in the US prison service.
That is why Brits often get a funny look, when you start talking about nonces to them.
