I second what @Bgeeoz says - please be considerate when answering other members questions - Thank you!
If I am going to be away from home for more than 24 hrs I shut down the NAS, network and modem, and switch off all appliances.
I leave a few mini cams that write to Micro USB on motion.
I set mechanical timers on a few lamps, so the go on and off randomly. I put some ice cubes in a zip-loc bag in the freezer as a canary for a long power outage while away.
Other than a long spell away, everything stays running except the one desk-top computer, it gets shut down unless it has a big queue of video being ripped. Laptops, tablets and Chromebooks (the majority of devices) just hibernate, and may be plugged into chargers.
We switch our hot water system on at 10pm and off at 8am, that saves about 40% off our power bill, because it is not an off-peak system.
This is Australia, so the US may handle power pricing differently.
Live and Enjoy!
Donāt also forget you time. If your modem is not on, you can not get updates to you hardware and software. You would have to wait for the updates when you would rather be watching a show to use the devices.
Additionally, when camera trip, they can send notifications to alert you to let you know what is happening then. Instead of having to wait until you get home.
Yes, I love that about my Arlo Pro cameras. Instant notificationsā¦
