I expect Steve will want to cover this in this week’s show… but it’s always great when your internal hardware (your PC) can be used to reflect an outside attack into your network. They mentioned Firefox being less vulnerable but then went on to mention other attack vectors, so it’s not clear to me what you could do except be extra careful about the sites you visit.
Explicitly, it is only cable modems, and it looks like it is mainly Nordic ISPs that are affected, looking at the list. Although Humax do sell kit in Germany, I’ve only ever seen satellite receivers from them.
I believe that the cable networks here also tend to use AVM Fritz!Box cable modems, I know Kabel Deutschland used to, but we’ve never had cable, so I don’t have any first hand experience.
