About iPads: yeah, ever since the iPad Pro 2018 there has rarely been a speed reason to upgrade an iPad Pro year over year. I was forced off my M1 iPad Pro because it broke. I could’ve gotten many more years out of it.
I do like my iPad Pro M4 and I’m happy I have it… but I so kind of resent Apple for the upgrade path I was forced to take (face ID died! and they don’t repair iPads)
Fingers crossed I don’t have to upgrade my iPad Pro for a long time. I had my M1 for 4 years, and I was hoping to get 5+ years of service out of it. If I can get 5 years of service from my M4 I’ll be happy. I spent a lot of money on my iPad Pro (because I wasn’t satisfied, and returned the Air) and I do like it, but I don’t know if I could really happilly spend more money on it in the future. Which sucks because I know prices never get lower…
I know the OLED on the iPad Pro M4 is probably great, but I can’t really tell a world of difference compared to the M1 12.9 I had. Obviously I know the blacks are true black and that’s a huge difference. Since I haven’t seen the iPads side by side, maybe I just didn’t notice the big upgrade… But unless looking at true black content, I don’t feel the OLED iPad Pro upgrade was a big deal for me… And I love OLED displays on my phones! I think I’m also now nervous about when the screen will get burn in, and I know Apple won’t fix my iPad after a year. So I’m mostly nervous now.
I fell asleep watching this show live (it was nap time, after all!) but I remembered wanting to leave that comment as I dozed off. I’ll probably have more to say when I re-watch the episode
That orange iPhone Pro would get me to upgrade I think…. My favourite iPhone I ever had was my 11 Pro Max in forest green.
I recently watched a show called The League and it reminded me how much fun fantasy sports can be when you’re invested in the game. I used to play a lot of FantasyLCS (league of legends) in college with my gamer buddies.
Regarding the brief discussion about if an AOL or Yahoo email is worse? When email first became a thing, I had an address at AOL, CompuServe, and Prodigy. My Yahoo address came about when I was traveling and found out I could use a Yahoo account to check my CompuServe email, which was my main account way back when. I’m curious what email would be considered “good”, assuming you don’t have your own domain? ![]()
Today, I really only “laugh” at AOL addresses. I’d say Gmail is probably the “standard” freebie that would be “good”, but I still know plenty of people that use Yahoo.
My dad still uses Yahoo. 10 years ago I tried to migrate him to Gmail unsuccessfully.
I use Gmail as my main email and the one I use registering on websites, newsletters, etc. Their spam filtering is top notch. I do have a Mac.com email that I give to friends.
I do have a few friends with yahoo.com email addresses.
My 2018 iPad Pro 11" is still going strong, but I made the mistake of getting the 64GB model and I am repeatedly bumping up against that and having to reinstall apps. It is a huge pain if I want to actually download movies for a trip. And it has become increasingly difficult to update without spending too much time removing stuff to free up space. I’m thinking my next purchase will be an M4 version with 512GB of storage so I don’t have to worry about this again.
I’ve always bought the base storage option but I’m not very liberal with the apps I install. My mom is still using my iPad Pro 11" from 2018 and it has 64GB too. I forgot it was 64GB though. Apple has been dragging it’s feet at 128GB for so long it feel like forever haha. I was hoping the M4 iPads would be 256GB by now.
Edit: my iPad Pro M4 actually IS 256gb! I never noticed hahah I have the base model, as usual
My daughter has a 64GB iPhone X and was at the stage, where she would have to reinstall apps to take photos of the kids. In the end, I gave her my iPhone 13 Pro with 256GB.
When I got my iPad Air, I went with 128GB, which works for my usage at the moment, but that is currently mainly consumption.
My mom still uses an old ISP address (sbcblogal). I think it was from our first DSL from very early 2000. If I recall, they were bought out by AT&T, and the sbcglobal email was run through Yahoo, but I think it’s now run through someone else, but still branded as Yahoo, but goes through an AT&T account. It’s even weirder, they no longer have AT&T cell service, but anytime this account requires 2FA (like when using a 3rd party email app) it doesn’t send the code, but you can just click through. I’m not even sure we can log in through the web, and the only part that works is the Yahoo Mail iOS app. Worst part is, she has a gmail account, but it’s purely for scanning receipts for points.
Perfect example of why people should move to a modern email service! I’m not a fan of Gmail, but at least it’s free and secure!
