Hearing Aid with Auto Cut Off Limiter

I’m wondering if anyone is aware of a hearing aid that automatically shuts off at a given threshold (in order to prevent further hearing loss). I haven’t been able to find anything, and I’m wondering why this isn’t a feature that is currently available. It doesn’t seem like it would be that hard to do, can someone explain to me why (if it’s not as simple as I’m thinking it should be).

Are these over-the-counter models?

I’m pretty sure on my Dad’s Starkeys the max volume is not a user-configurable setting, it’s one of the things his audiologist configures.

However, as more OTC ones become available, I assume this will have to be all user-configurable.

A hearing aid can amplify sounds but not sure how it would reduce them. Guess it could a little if it sealed off the canal
