ATG 1996: It's a Towel Warmer

Beep boop - this is a robot. A new show has been posted to TWiT…

What are your thoughts about today’s show? We’d love to hear from you!

Probably several days late, but GPS question peaked my interest having been an early adopter of hand held GPS many years ago.

Many answers online, but most require turning off mobile data on your phone to use it.

Google Maps on iPhone provides a way without doing that, at least on iOS 17. It may be similar on Android.

First, you download an offline map using Google Maps for the area you want to travel.

Click on where it says the name of your selected area (Petaluma), then scroll to “Download offline map”.

Go to Settings app, scroll down to Google Maps, and turn off Mobile Data (you can shut off mobile data on Apple Maps, but it won’t navigate).

Assuming you are out of range of wifi signal, Google Maps will now navigate without mobile data, and will not reroute due to traffic.

But don’t forget you turned off mobile data in Google Maps when you do want that help. P
