Amazon needs to do their research before changing things

Just putting this out there for those that need a laugh.
Off the coast of Rhode Island is an island, Block Island, that has the city of New Shoreham. Block Island is only reachable by air or by ferry. In order to ship to the island, Amazon would ship via UPS, which would then work with a contractor on the island to pick up the packages at the ferry to perform the “last mile” delivery. Trying to save money, Amazon contacted the contractor directly to see about working direct, but apparently nothing happened. Amazon then contacted the US Postal Service to see if they could get their packages delivered to Block Island. USPS said sure.
So now, an Amazon van takes the ferry over, drops the packages at the post office, then returns on the next ferry.
However, Amazon never checked to see that the USPS actually delivered. Residents of New Shoreham have to go to the post office to pick up their mail, and now their packages.
After taking a bit of heat for this, Amazon is going back to their old way of doing things, to ensure that people will actually get home delivery.

(This is the TLDR version of an article published in the Providence Journal)
