WW 916: ¡Agua Gigante!

Beep boop - this is a robot. A new show has been posted to TWiT…

What are your thoughts about today’s show? We’d love to hear from you!

I can’t wait to listen to this. That thumbnail looks like classic boy fun. I’ll update this post as I listen.

Paul has been rocking those glasses on First Ring Daily and I gotta say: he looks so gosh darn cool!!!

I know there’s no choice(as in, no fault of the TWiT producers) but I hate the sound of birds… I know I’m in the minority. Those bird sounds are gonna drive me crazy in my headphones. I won’t let that get in the way of my enjoyment of the show though

I don’t understand the appeal of WinKey+S (/Q) for search. I just tap the WindowsKey and type. I suppose it’s for legacy users before Search was built in to Start

“Earthquake: it’s like click-to-do but different”

The big problem I have with AI subscriptions is that I have yet to find a use for AI that makes it worth $1 a month to me, let alone $20 or multiples of $20.

I have ChatGPT, Perplexity and Midjourney on my iPhone and I have Perplexity and ChatGPT pinned in my browser on the desktop. But I use Perplexity, maybe, 2-3 times a week and I haven’t found anything that I need to ask ChatGPT on a regular basis. The images from Midjourney are fun, but crazyily wrong and, I just don’t need to make images on a regular basis.

We have an AI ban at work, where we can’t use any AI tools at the moment, although that is becoming more and more difficult, with Microsoft adding more and more Copilot directly into Windows and from March or April, Apple putting Apple Intelligence into iOS, iPadOS and macOS.

We had a workshop this week on using AI and there are some real benefits that we could realise at work, but we have to set up policies and an AI Ethics document and decide which ones AIs we can safely use (no leaking of company secrets and compliance with industry regulations).

As to PCs at home, I’m just about to buy a new laptop, probably a MacBook Pro, or maybe the M4 Air, if it turns up in the next week or so. But my wife only ever used my old laptop for her timesheets and always complained that every time she turned it on it needed updating - that is the thing, when you only turn it on once a month!

She just switched to an iPad Air and is very happy with it.
