Regarding targeted advertising… I really don’t know what they are trying to target.
I, a 55 year old, balding male, was watching a gaming video (GTA5) on YouTube yesterday and the ads shown were: Gliskur (hair colouring), L’Oreal beauty products for women and Candice make-up for 20-something women… None of that passes to me or to the content I’m watching…
As far as I’m concerned, “targeted” advertising is a waste of my time and plain and simple fraud, with regard to the companies paying to advertise on the platforms.
I’ve always assumed my YouTube ads are based on what’s in my Gmail. I get ads for a mail-order coffee company that I’ve used before.
If you don’t use Gmail, perhaps they’re just random?
