When/why did you start using Linux and whats your setup?

An update:

I currently have a Mac mini M1 as my main machine, but also a Ryzen 1700 running SUSE, a Raspberry Pi 400 running Ubuntu, 2 Pi 3bs running RaspiOS and an old Vaio laptop running Mint.

For the first time since 1994, I don’t have a Microsoft PC.

Almost 20 years ago I was in my early teens, curious to try new things, quickly impassioned by the ideas of open-source, and full of the energy to actually go through the then-complicated installation processes and give several distros fair shakes. First one I used was Fedora and in hindsight I have no clue why.

Gaming on Linux was pretty bad back then, for most intents and purposes, so after a couple years I stopped bothering to dual-boot and went back to Windows exclusively.

Between then and now I strayed from Windows to try a new distro or new version every few years, but it never stuck.

Now, with Proton and Steam Deck improving Linux gaming by leaps and bounds, Microsoft’s Edge browser shenanigans are enough to push me over the edge. Going to try Garuda, Manjaro, Zorin, Pop!_OS, Elementary, and maybe Solus.

Back in Windows XP days I tried an tool called wubi and that’s how I 1st got into Linux. Then I got an windows 7 desktop and dual booted it with unbutu on an 2nd hard disk. It was getting up in age by the time Windows 10 came out so I let it be ungareded to Windows 10 to see if it wound behove me to buy an Windows 10 system. Since the answer was no I gone MAC. That old system after an new hard drive, cpu and power birnk was put in is now running Ubuntu Server.

Steam’s Proton is super fix for the gamers out their but since I only buy games form gog.com and is not fully working with the MAC yet is why I give it an pass.
