There was a discussion about Twitch and it’s problem being it’s not profitable due to long view times.
I feel like it’s even worse there because the “drops” system where you get game items by watching streams.
At least for my part, and I am sure I am not alone, I have zero interest in watching any Twitch stream, but if I want a free Overwatch Skin, I will open up a channel before work or bed, and just let it run while I am gone for 8-10 hours, because that is what is required.
So they aren’t even getting real eyeballs because they have this system that basically just encourages inflating number of views.
Really enjoying the Olympics. Highlight for me so far is Tom Pidcock’s ‘Verstappen-style’ overtake to win the XC MTB gold last week after getting back up to the leaders after a front puncture🙂 Amazing stuff.
Discovery+ have the full rights here. Went for the half-price subscription, and it’s great. Every sport live, timelines that show key moments you can wind back to, notifications when a medal event is on. Well worth the £3.99.
Good luck with the move!
Twitch is one of the two streaming services I actually pay for, because I can leave it running all day in a small window while I’m working and have some background noise, plus it’s people playing my favorite games all day every day! I’d be bummed to see it sidelined or eventually die, but as someone said on the show it’s an audience that uses adblockers more than the norm, and is extremely adament about keeping it that way. Twitch could implore their users to turn them off and they’d just double-down. How does a service that expensive, with that kind of an audience, monetize?
