As much as boeing has dropped the ball in terms of schedule when it comes to Starliner, it’s really important that NASA has at least two providers or Spacex would just cobble everything up in a monopoly.

I’m surprised another privateer hasn’t cropped up and eaten their lunch by now. I guess the market isn’t quite that advanced yet.

I believe there were companies that tried, but given the huge cost and lack of customers it’s difficult for private industry to get a foot in the door. The only reason Boeing and Spacex even have these space capsules is because NASA buys them.
