Hey guys, I just caught up with yesterday’s TechGuy chat about AI voiceover. My non-profit is using AI for some of its shows. I did AI VO from Well Said Labs back in February.
I uploaded an mp3 version to WeTransfer: WeTransfer in case y’all want to listen.
The VO sounds really good. It’s probably obvious to us radio/podcast producers. But I fooled most people at the office when doing some informal A/B tests.
We produce a lot of content, and I don’t think we’re anywhere near replacing actual talent. But I can see our using it for things like short, simple voice overs more frequently.
For high value stuff, like our documentary trailers and long form content, nothing beats real people yet.
I bet it won’t be long before AI simplifies editing in the pro world. I have very mixed feelings about that.

I’m just glad I’m at the end of my career, not the beginning. Although, in a way, it could be a democratizing force for people who can write but don’t sound great in audio.
Ultimately, though, we’re all going to be replaced by computers. Sigh.
