How long do people’s UPS batteries last? I’m getting one for my father as his phone line is being removed and replaced with VoIP, and the people who provide his fall alert service have said we should get a UPS so that it continues to work during a power cut.
We generally reckon with five years at work. We have just replaced 2 old Dell UPS, their second set of batteries were running out and one was faulty.
Thanks. I was worried we’d be replacing them every six months, five years is manageable.
It’s normally in years when you need to buy a new battery. You might get unlucky and have to replace the battery in as little as 2 years.
All this talk of UPS made me remember how I killed a UPS somehow. I’m not sure what happened, but I went to unplug a computer from the PSU side (I think I had hit the off switch before I pulled the plug) as I was going to do something on the inside of it and needed to move it to a table, and as I unplugged it, I heard a noise that I’m used to hearing when the other computer shuts down (like a “thunk” or “click” type of sound). I looked up at the monitor and saw a black screen. I don’t remember the exact steps I took at this point, but eventually I saw that my UPS display would not come on at all, and I think the power button on it wasn’t working either.
All this talk of UPS made me think to myself “maybe I need to buy one of those?”
I realized that I provided it update, it was the UPS. The computers been up and running normally since I replaced the UPS a few months ago.
