It is similar to the Scottish thing for having pearl barley in the soup, and the soup being sturdy enough to stand a spoon in.
However I have made many a pot of “stewp” as I call it. The ingredients should be sticking out of the top of the soup
I am also a fan of soup and rice. I used to get the Thai restaurant in my street to make me some very spicy fried rice and a mild soup, or creamy coconut rice and a spicy soup.
I say soup, but Thai curry is basically a thin soup.
Soup and rice, a great mix and texture.
