I went to look up voting info on Google. After clicking on what I thought was a legit site, a message popped up “58.phone-spamshield.com says Warning! Your device is infected with a spam virus that causes aggressive ads. Remove it immediately to avoid damaging your phone.” I have Avast and a scan showed nothing. Should I ignore the pop up warning? Thank you.
Sounds like typical “cause panic to get them to do ‘this dangerous thing’ while mindlessly panicing” site. In general if you’re not looking for a problem, and the problem is reported “ad hoc” and isn’t from a shield software you actively installed, it’s probably best to ignore it. It’s akin to links you receive in email… if you didn’t request the link, best to ignore it.
Yes, ignore. They are trying to get you to click the ‘proceed’ button on that fake popup. If you do that you’ll be enabling notifications for spam ads.
If you are sure the site was legit, maybe let them know this has happened somehow?
Thanks PHolder. I’ve calmed down and am now ignoring it!
Thanks Jamze. I think the site is legit, but am afraid to try again.
Agree, if the warning doesn’t come from the installed Avast, it is a fake.
