I have very fond memories of being a very young kid and discovering the invert feature in MS Paint, and I had a blast drawing pictures in a similar fashion to as I did on paper.
I have a vivid memory of my classic character, on a black (inverted) background, and I drew a big egg (white) shape around him. and I used the black colour with the spay paint can tool to draw the hatching process.
