I am sure that the guy is glad that Simon was not there otherwise he would have ripped him for having a proprietary server and the only things that was open source about the product was that:

  1. They analyzed open source code to create his product.
  2. The integration (i.e. client portion to connect to their proprietary server) were open source. Which makes sense. It opens the market that can connect to their server.

And as Jonathan pointed out at the end, people are getting more and more concerned about trust. Would you trust a company where you are sending basically all of your IP to them?

Oh, by the way did I point out the service itself is proprietary?
