Computer Boot Issues

So did you manage to ramp up your fans at all?

Kinda warm but not fans. for some reason brave is taking over 3GB of ram (which I’ve never experienced b4) tho. generally its been a lot cooler that usual.

Brave is a work still in progress. I would lose it right away. IMHO

ended up being a fluke. Brave went down to its average performance which is pretty close to Edge and better than Chrome.

Today I started using the computer and noticed! that the fans were going crazy and opened task manager and found this. All I had open was some web browsing tabs, PowerPoint, Discord, Word, Teams, Acrobat and a couple of UWAs. None of that should be so GPU intensive, right?

Update:

I’ve restarted since I originally wrote this that seemed to help the GPU process part but the computer is still having the heat problems. Core Temp still consistently reads between 40° and 50° no matter what.

Hi @SamGreenwood, the GPU being always on with high usage when not being apparently used is probably the AMD Radeon Software instant replay recording cache. If you have “Desktop Recording” and/or “Instant Replay” set/or is default ON in the AMD software then the GPU is always streaming the display to cache/recording. Try checking/turning off this feature and then check the GPU, which should now be close to idle

I would be looking at the process tab and sorting it by the different columns to see what is using that ludicrous amount of RAM and GPU.

HP is finally offering me to take the laptop in for repair. I also plan to go to Best Buy to see if they’d replace it.

Recieved it back from HP and it’s better. The performance issues seem to be gone but Windows Update just blue-screened it.

Update: computer has rebooted from the bluescreen and now the mouse and keyboard seem to not be working.

Update 2: doesn’t work with USB mice and keyboards either, not even in safe mode, the touchscreen works.

Just got off the phone with HP and the trackpad and keyboard are working again. It seemed to be a driver issue I assume that a problem updating the drivers is what caused the computer to crash. But now that the drivers fixed Windows Update is erroring out again (at least it didn’t crash the computer this time).

The support rep recommended also clean installing windows but I said no because everything was working. I noticed that the repair place for some reason downgraded the BIOS version.

I wish HP would just replace the machine, I’ve had so many problems with it.

Sounds like you’ve purchased a dud unfortunately. From reading this thread, with the amount of issues you’ve had with your Laptop, I’d be calling it quits. Contact HP, ask what they can offer. If they don’t want to know about it, I’d be purchasing a new Laptop. Save yourself the future headaches!!

Indeed… but the very least reinstall the whole system, start from a clean slate.

I’ll try that. It’s generally OS processes that use the majority of RAM and CPU. When I got it back from HP it was better but there were some problems with the clean installation they gave me. It’s running better but still very hot and loud. It still takes multiple attempts to install update and drivers don’t install properly. Calling HP tomorrow.

I’d download the drivers from HP onto a thumb drive and get a clean Windows install from Microsoft. No HP bloat then.

I’ve tried that didn’t work either. Interestingly the clean install from the HP repairs department was bloatware free.

I sent it to HP last week. The HP repair centre call me a few minutes ago and said that they couldn’t observe any issues. Interestingly the night before I sent it in it just started acting normally assuming it was just a fluke i sent it in any way. I guess my problem is solved (hopefully).
