It had a good long run. The problem I find with interview shows is that many podcasts I listen to often have the same guests in the span of a few short weeks. Many guests are authors promoting books they have just written. This trend holds true even on every 3rd Triangulation interview. The point is that there are alternatives out there if anyone needs their interview fix.
It would have been nice if there had been some sort of goodbye after the last episode at the end, and shows in the past have had some but others have not.
Some former shows on the network like The Giz Wiz, TWIS, etc., have gone independent (and be listener supported) so maybe it is possible that this show could go that route down the road if it gets revived in the future.
Feeling nostalgic Maybe this will help. First TWiT video
I think it’s best to think of Triangulation as no longer being a regular show. Leo did say one-off interviews could be published as specials.
another one bits the dust, what a shame. @Leo hope you plans include something similar
That’s as good a hypotenuse as any … I mean hypothesis !
2What about Patreon? I also dislike the idea of premium podcasts but the Patreon model seems to work well (based on my outside observation). There are a few podcasts that I listen to that both take adds and use Patreon, they seem to be doing well.
Just an idea
If you watch an episode on YouTube, it does get counted in our analytics. However, just subscribing and doing nothing doesn’t count. Also, upvotes and downvotes don’t matter to our analytics (…although might make it get promoted within YouTube more often.)
FYI: If you have Apple TV (4th or 5th generation), you can watch ANY episode of Triangulation using my free Apple TV app: Triangulation (TWiT) on the App Store
Downloads and ratings would be greatly appreciated!
Gosh it is sad it’s not pulling it’s weight. I’m not a huge Triangulation listener but some of the shows were really really good.
In fact the last show - #427 was the best show ever I reckon. That real creative instinct from Jeff Brockman and of course you could clearly see how Jason was so so into every part of the story he was telling. I couldn’t possibly stop listening right to the end - it was really good. Not sure it’s everyone’s cup of tea, but for me that one deserves a gold star. I hope there are more interview opportunities like that.
Cheers.
Triangulation to me has epitomized the value TWiT offers at its very best, and that’s honestly down to Leo’s vast troves of knowledge and his independent-minded perspective as a tech journalist, my misgivings around sponsorship issues notwithstanding. While it’s great that others find enjoyment in interviews with other hosts, I cannot say I have shared that opinion. That said, running a show by a time-table and money metrics I think is a recipe for over-extension; so long as Leo reserves the right to conduct further such interviews, as Triangulation or otherwise, which are self-occasioned, for their own sake, unhurried, and plenary in their scope, I plan to keep tabs on the output.
So sad this show got cancelled. I certainly understand and appreciate the business reasoning behind that certainly not easy decisions, but at least I’ll shout out a thank you to all the hosts and the guests of the show! I’ve definitely bought on audible many of the books, whose authors had been interviewed on the show, and, being located in Germany, and most ads being US-targeted, that might well have been my only twit-triggered purchases… No idea where I should get my book recommendations now :-/
The book recommendations do show up on other shows, so at least there’s that.
