WW 971: Texas English

Beep boop - this is a robot. A new show has been posted to TWiT…

What are your thoughts about today’s show? We’d love to hear from you!

There was a hiss what I suspect was coming from Richard’s mic on the YouTube version of the show. Maybe his gain was a bit too high? The hiss was persistent and drove me crazy.

I couldn’t help but notice what looks like a marble toilet seat piece of art on Richard’s shelf. I’m sure it’s something else, and it’s beautiful. but it looks like a very nice piece of stone in the shape of a toilet seat.

Long live the taskbar on the top of the screen. I didn’t move to Windows 11 until I knew I could use ExplorerPatcher to do everything I wanted. While now I use ExplorerPatcher for more than just the taskbar, it’s nice that to get features back. I would’ve been happier if I were still using a Windows laptop for work, but I’ve escaped Windows land for work. At work I didn’t have admin on my machine, so I was really at the whim of what Windows 11 allowed (or GPO admins allowed). Now I’m at the whim of Apple and the awful rounded corners of macOS (but it’s not so bad. but bad enough where I’m not updating my personal macbook air (which i never use))

I use ExplorerPatcher to bring back the Windows 10 taskbar(with the Windows 11 start menu), & Windows 10 file explorer. I need the Windows 10 taskbar because I use the smaller taskbar to get some vertical space back. When I was a coder, I was always using macOS (or Linux, where I used KDE Plasma with the taskbar on top) where I had the dock on the side of the screen (right side everything) because that’s where I trained my eye to look for static information. I need the Windows 10 taskbar because a tool I like called T-clock is so old it’ll never be supported on the Windows 11 taskbar.

I also love having a vertical monitor. I’ve had one for over a decade at home, but only sometimes at jobs. They’re really nice when you have them though. At home my vertical display is dedicated to discord for about 75% of the screen and often i have nothing on the bottom 25% but maybe i’ll have a file explorer there from time to time. In 2024 I got very into creating fancyzones for my main display and in 2025 i finally got zones on the other displays i have.

“Former tech podcaster Leo Laporte” oh gosh. Leo you’re still the man.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed the odd shape of what I presume is a piece of art.

If vertical space is so important, why don’t you hide the task bar? It was frustrating for the first hour or so, but I quickly got used to it.

I like having the status bar at the top of the screen. I use the clock / date a lot, and I read the stuff at the top of the screen. I do not want to have to move my mouse up there to see it. Although on macOS I hide the dock. But I like having the persistent clock & date up there. I use something called T-Clock.

I suppose the short answer is: glance ability

I did a little more research after noticing it again in this week’s show, and I came up with this, which is made locally to him, so it might be related.
