On my YouTube feed (algorithmic) this podcast was placed right next to a gaming podcast I enjoy (GameScoop) which this week was riiiight at the top of the episode: sponsored by 5 hour energy. Felt fitting because the thumbnail of this video featured 5 hour energy instead of Paul Thurrott
Datacenters pay a huge amount of taxes. I live in northern Virginia where there are 100’s of data centers. Those data centers pay a huge portion of taxes and keep my property taxes steady while the appraisals are skyrocketing.
Netflix is a total ripoff. They can not justify the last price increase.
I have the 1080p version.(I will not pay extra for 4K) I use Netflix Gift Cards to pay for it when I want to watch something. Netflix is not like Prime were you can go in & see what Movies & Shows they have without a paid subscription.
Take a look at what is there, it is just pitiful .
They have now changed the UI & Worth the Wait is gone. No big loss because there is nothing worth waiting for.
It is full of old Movies & TV Shows. Then there is the never ending Foreign Language Films & TV shows. Some are dubbed in English, but they are just a lot of boring garbage. I also do not want to read a movie. I want to be able to watch the actors act.
Why is that you ask??? Well I will tell you.
Because it is cheap for them to buy Old Movies & TV shows especially the International ones. Prime does the same thing.
I also see the same old tired shows at the front of lists were Netflix made 6,8 or10 episodes & then abandoned them.
I have a theory about all this. I really think this is all because they made a Michael Bay
Movie- 6 Underground. That’s were all their money went. LOL.
I just said the other day while looking for something to add to my list WOW 15 years & that Movie is finally here.
After having Prime for one year I dumped it because there was nothing left that I wanted to watch. Was also not going to pay extra for Add Free.
Okay Rant Over.
I loved that conversation about chat apps and how we all just peacefully accept that chat apps are a dime a dozen and depending on stage in life, what activity we have going on we will have various services we use. Myself apps on my phone, iMessage/messages app, facebook messenger, Teams, MeWe, WhatsApp, & GroupMe.
The latest, GroupMe is something the burn camp I volunteer with has started using for events so that we can quickly get information out to people coming to or at events about changes in the itinerary. Our last trip (Michigan City Beach Outing) we had to change dinner venue due to weather that was moving in but we seamless transitioned because of everyone being on the same page due to the app.
Netflix does a lot of great international programming and, being British and living in Germany, I watch about 75% European films and series, because they are more relatable, most are dubbed into German. As my wife doesn’t speak English, I very rarely watch anything in English these days, apart from a few YouTube channels I watch on my own.
A lot of the European and Asian content is actually very high quality, and, yes, they do have older stuff in their catalogue, but considering the low quality of much of the new US produced films in recent years, I am glad they are there.
The segment on File Sharing reminded me that Andy Ihnatko on MacBreak Weekly recommended a great app that basically is AirDrop, but for all devices.
It’s called Blip (https://blip.net/)
I’ve installed it on my Windows PC and my various Android devices, and it works perfectly. Just wanted to throw that out there.
