WW 947: Hallucinated Clown Shoes

Beep boop - this is a robot. A new show has been posted to TWiT…

What are your thoughts about today’s show? We’d love to hear from you!

I didn’t catch the entire show live. I caught the pre-show and maybe 20-or-so minutes if the main show before I went to do some errands. I’m looking forward to listening to this now (I’m up early!)

This picture is from The Verge and my comedy brain wants to call this uber left-wing(edit: the word I was looking for was leftist) end of summer bash out on Lake Washington https://platform.theverge.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/08/Kayak-0695-Blurred.jpg and I also wanted to compare it to left-wing(edit: leftist) January 6th but it’s definitely less chaotic as it’s not the national capitol (but I’m glad Leo and I thought the same thing)

The M1 Macbook Air you can buy at Walmart is still a pretty good computer for the average person. It’s an old Mac, but I don’t consider it crappy. Maybe I’m biased as I still have & use one. It’s not my main computer. But it’s good enough for most things in a web browser. It’s cheap and really good enough for 80-90% of the tasks.

Pour one out for Cortana https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rp2rhM8YUZY

I love sugar. I +1 a candy of the week!! @Leo what’s YOUR favourite candy?

I’m still rocking a GTX 1070 but I think I’m finally ready to upgrade my computer. I’m having performance issues in World of Warcraft which is the only modern game i play

Problem report: I was listening to the non-Club (i.e. with ads) audio version of this episode, and the sound cut out somewhere around the 32 min 20 seconds mark according to my player, and appears to not return - that is, the file keeps playing, but no sound. Tested my setup by restarting the device, same behaviour, sound until around 32:20 then silence.

Tried playing other podcast files, all appear to be fine. Tried skipping forwards to the middle and near the end of the WW episode. Sound does re-appear 20 seconds before the end of the file (approx 2:48:08) in the middle of an advert.

Next thing I’ll try is deleting and re-downloading the file, then I’ll report back.

Re-dowloaded the file. Sound has continued past the point where it stopped previously. I’ll let it run through the whole episode to see if the problem is resolved.

The updated episode played through to the end without any problems.

What a great episode! It was nice to have a different opinion on the show, that wasn’t a rich 50 or 60 year old (multiple residences in multiple countries, or constant international vacations does equal way above middle class, no matter what they try to claim) AND no beer/whiskey pick at the end?

Make Chris a new permanent cohost!

You’re obviously unaware of how Rich makes an income. He’s a professional speaker… and he speaks at conferences around the world. They’re not vacations, in general, and if you’ve ever done a lot of travel for work (I have) it’s not a fun life, even if you do get to see a lot of places. (In my case I travelled a lot to the same places, unfortunately.)

The above is not really a vote against Chris, but I wouldn’t endorse him as an enjoyable presence either. He didn’t make me laugh even once, whereas I find Rich is pretty good at being funny a lot of the time, and is a very good foil for Paul’s sense of humour as well. I’m sure the dynamic of Chris and Paul COULD work over time, but I don’t have a problem with the current setup, and it’s because of Rich and Paul that I consider WW to be the best show on the network.

I didn’t dislike Chris but I didn’t find him to be a very charismatic person. I don’t drink alcohol so I don’t care about the brown liquid, but I like Richard a lot on the show.

I do wanna see Paul and Paris eventually though. I feel like they’d get along and be pretty funny together.

I did like seeing Chris though. It’s nice to have a different atomosphere from time to time. I rather Chris than Mikah (I don’t dislike Mikah. I just don’t really feel like he adds much to Windows Weekly)

This is where I tell you the Mikah used to work at Microsoft and you go like :open_mouth:

That definitely surprises me, but also not really. He seems like a super smart & very nice guy.

I still don’t know if that changes my opinion about him on Windows Weekly (but it also doesn’t happen that often, so i’m not really complaining about it)

I used to travel a lot for work (it started to slow down pre-pandemic, and now is mostly non-existent). One of my last trips was a conference in 2020 at the Swan and Dolphin hotels at Disney World. The only time I left the Dolphin was to attend something at the Swan on my last day there. I took a photo of Spaceship Earth in the distance to prove I was actually at Disney. Other than that one time, I Uber’d to the Dolphin, never left the Dolphin, and then Uber’d to the airport.

So yes, I’ve travelled a fair bit and been to many places. I wouldn’t say I’ve seen many places though. When you’re working, you’re working, not doing touristy stuff.

The same here, although, when I was in Frankfurt, I saw a lot of the city, because I was there for 6 months and I used the cost of a return flight every week to travel through Germany with a girl I met there. But in general, you travel up on a Sunday evening or Monday morning, go from the hotel to the office, office to hotel, and at the end of the week, back home.

As someone who played COD in the 360 days, I hate the fortnite-ification of multiplayer. I don’t mind custom avatars, but all of the flames, skulls, and Ninja Turtles really breaks the immersion. I didn’t realize that’s infested in Halo as well to a certain degree. Unfortunately I haven’t really found a similar multiplayer game that has the same leveling-up system. And I don’t know what a Battle Pass is, and I’m afraid to ask.

Paul made a great point in regards to the history of console/platform fees, that doesn’t get mentioned enough. In that historically the 30% fee, 20% used to cover the physical cost of making the physical product. And the fact that the smartphone market is so huge that regulation is needed beyond the traditional definition of monopoly.

I’m aware. I’m generalizing about all 3 of them. Rich has definitely implied more than a little bit of downtime while traveling for work, but yes I’m aware that it’s different than vacation (I’ve done some work travel myself, and had a very close friend who was a traveling international auditor). It’s still a lifestyle level that is not anywhere near that of the common listener.

I didn’t realize people found Rich funny. I don’t mind him (Leo’s more to blame for 20 minutes worth of alcohol talk at the end, whether Rich or Mary Jo), but he seems more aligned with Leo and Paul’s complaining than entertaining.

Paul loves Paris, France! He used to regularly do a home swap and vacation there, before he got the place in Mexico.
