I seriously think these guys must live on another planet. The “Instagram ads never show me anything relevant” was one level of wrong, but maybe if you use social media in weird ways you get results that are less useful. It’d still make them EXTREME outliers in having this experience, but whatever, it’s social media.
But now this week Paul says the search in Google Photos is useless? Seriously? Is he typing in the wrong language or something? I can’t even wrap my head around this. The search there NEVER fails to surface what I’m looking for. In fact, it not only finds the photos I want (even without me adding metadata to most of them), but there’s a few results each time that stun me with how accurate they are to my search term, even in ways that I never would’ve thought of (something deep in the background, a random word barely visible that is in fact the term I happened to search for).
Can anybody explain it? Have they enshirtified their own experience by hacking stuff out of it and blocking every tracker and cookie or something? I just can’t reconcile their experiences with these technologies with other humans I know.
I don’t use Google Photos at all, and try not to use Google for anything more than email and search, so my opinion is going to be biased, but I’m guessing they have their content spread across too many places because they’re using Apple, Microsoft and Google and none of them are really in charge.
