Leo’s always so ready to buy everything
“Should I buy it?” - Leo eager to buy a System76 Linux desktop.
I also can’t view the Windows Ugly Sweater on the storepage. I had the same instinct as Leo (but if it’s for employees only i suppose that makes sense)
Paul mentioned that Copilot will be co-opting the Alt+Space shortcut to open the window menu. This shortcut has been a lifesaver over the last 3 decades for windows that open up off screen (happens especially with multi-monitor setups and badly written software). Selecting the application on the taskbar, Alt+Space to open the window menu, down arrow twice and enter to select move, arrow key and waggle mouse and the titlebar of the window is fixed to the mouse pointer and you can move the window back onto the screen).
So, where is that shortcut going?
They made a mistake. They meant WinKey+Space.
I never knew about the Move feature before. I never understood how it worked until now. When I need to do that same thing, I click the program on the taskbar and hit WinKey+ArrowKey. which snaps the window to the screen
Aha, that makes more sense. Overriding something as important as Alt+Space sounded a bit crazy.
I’ve never used snap, so I was still using the old move workaround for hidden windows. Thanks for the tip.
Hmm, Paul just replied on Thurrott.com and the Alt+Space is direct from the Microsoft blog!
Huh, I see. That would make sense because I did hear Paul say Alt+Space more than once (even before this episode. Perhaps on a first ring daily). So who knows.
When you say Paul responded, what do you mean? I sadly don’t have access to his forums as most of the features are premium only. As a normal windows user, I never use Alt+Space, so I wonder if the average consumer will miss it.
I asked the question in his Friday Ask Paul column and he put a quote from the Microsoft Windows team’s blog, where they say Alt +Space.
Well just to confirm, because PowerToys was also mentioned, that the PowerToys Run feature is definitely defaulted on Win+Space. There sure seems confusion around the whole thing, so maybe that should be a sign of them needing to rethink the whole mess.
