50 Shades of Grey is the book Paul was referring to which was originally a fanfiction of Twilight without the vampires. The ladies in my family (and likely lots of yours) were into it haha
Paul & Leo,
I have been using Protonmail & VPN for a long time now.
Proton has a 55% off the VPN subscription cost.
I had been using their Free version for a long time so I decided to support them & got a 2 year subscription that came out to $4.49 a month.
With a paid subscription you get extra features like
a setting to turn on Block Malware, Ads, & Tracking.
Your can also enable a Kill Switch.
I do not agree with what Leo said about encrypted email.
I trust this Swiss company. It is the only emal client I use & its free. I went through the process to upgrade my email storage to 1GB.
If Leo & I both have a Protonmail account our emails are end to end encrypted. They even have PGP integrated. You can also send encrypted email to non Proton users using a password. It is zero access encryption. Unlike gmail etc. Proton can not read your emails.
You can check it out here…

You can also right click on an email & select Block This Sender.
I did not sign up for a Proton Mail Account because of the encryption. I was just tired of Gmail. I was always having problems signing in & their privacy sucks. For me Protonmail is a good email client that serves my needs.
Here are some reviews…
I think you have higher hopes for your privacy than they do.
This is all a non issue for me. I do my research before I commit to using
a product.
Don’t really think Leo is a Criminal doing illegal activity on the net & neither am I.
Protonmail meets all my expectations for Privacy.
Here is a fun little Video concerning Spain & Protonmail.

You need to get all the facts or you can not make an honest assessment.
I did not give Proton a recovery Email.
Have to agree with Leo on this one. Shoehorning encryption into a protocol that was invented long before the notion of privacy even existed is a recipe for exploits. It’s just not what SMTP was ever intended for. Why not depend on something that was purpose built instead?
That being said, I am a satisfied, paying Proton user. I have no expectation of any enhanced protection with Proton, but rather I believe Proton’s business model makes them less susceptible to product enshitification and attempting to monetize me against my will. In that regard - yes my privacy is protected to a higher standard. I fully expect that they would comply with legal data requests as I would any reputable service.
Yeah I have a Proton Unlimited account and have for some time. I really like how they run their business but until they support custom domains with unlimited emails I’ll stick with Fastmail and use Signal when I need an e2e encrypted channel.
