I’d like to take exception to the denigrating tone y’all take in reference to meat. What an incredible piece of nature which, in my view, is not at all surprising to be the only host of known sentience in the universe. It’s a self-healing material that’s capable of generating and storing energy. Energy which is used with incredible efficiency compared to any mechanical system we have today.

Thanks. Really interesting. Since the NPU does array of array type calculations I wonder if you can use it to boost the speed of programs outside of AI that use matrix multiplication, like some artificial life sims.
On the topic of Recall that the gang talked about. I want a feature like that but from a different company. I want it from someone like Apple, Windows has a history of just enshittifying their products much more intensely than Apple.

You probably could use the NPU for such tasks, but you’d need to “hit the metal”, as the current APIs that allow you to make use of the NPU are all aimed at AI functions, so you would need to deep dive into the internals of the OS and the hardware to create your own libraries to make use of the NPU.
