Windows 10 End of Life

I wasn’t sure where else to put this but it seemed like something that should be noted. even though mainstream support ends on October 14, 2025, while Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 receives support until January 9, 2029, and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 until January 13, 2032.
Therefore, if you want to keep using Windows 10, and can get your hands on a copy of ether OS, then it might work

LTSC is only available for enterprise customers, and will have an additional support fee charged. These versions are not available for normal consumers.

It should be clearly stated what “end of mainstream support” means. It means the PC will still keep running, it will just not receive any further updates via “Windows Update”. Currently, there is expected to be a plan where consumers can pay MS money for one further year of updates. There are also plans from third parties which claim to fix the most important security issues, using 3rd party patches. The company 0patch is one such example.

I’m always mystified by this trend of fighting against Windows upgrades until literally the last second. I can’t imagine paying extra to keep Win10 up to date, but maybe that’s because I’m old enough to remember everyone saying they’d stick with XP until it stopped running (or realistically it’s probably because I’m a *NIX devotee).

What’s in 10 that’s not in 11 that requires its continued use? Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Microsoft finally give up on the TPM mandate?

For me, it’s the fact that my machine CANNOT run Windows 11. That pretty much is a motivator to be angered by Microsoft’s arbitrary decision to cut off some hardware while it’s still physically working fine. I know they only did it because they wanted to drive business for their hardware friends, like Intel, and look how that worked out, LOL.

This has been a known secret for like 3 decades now. Folks like Steve Gibson have shouted it from the rooftops, but since Microsoft has the entire computing world by the balls they just squeeze and squeeze and users have to smile through the pain.

“Whaddaya gonna do? Switch to Linux!?

And what’s truly unfortunate is that some folks have no way out. It’s the biggest monopoly in all of tech!
