What's most people using to rip blu ray discs nowadays?

just as the title says, what’s the prefer go to method for ripping blu ray discs ?

Which OS/platform are you looking to use?

I assume most people are still using the combo of Handbrake and VLC’s decryption library. That’s on all the major platforms at least.

MakeMKV is the leading one, IIRC. It does pretty much everything and it’s in active development.

Last time I looked into, it seemed VLC didn’t do anything with Blu-ray, and I needed MakeMKV to even think about ripping it (or VLC was lagging behind some DRM development in the cat and mouse game)

MakeMKV + Handbrake + Plex/Emby/Jellyfin

Agreed on the first two, but I use SMB+Kodi for the latter.

I am using mac os. thanks I will check this out.

As you’re using a Mac, I will give a shout-out to Subler. This utility allows me to easily add a wide range of meta-data to the ripped video files (cover art, type of media, description, etc). It’s free to download and use. It was donation-ware but the ability to accept donations has been turned off for the past year or so.
